Nutrient Terms:What Is Glycine?

The structurally simplest amino acid. Common in sleep and connective-tissue nutrition research.

A common energy substrate for intestinal mucosal cells; see Intestinal Permeability and Mucosa.

A tea-derived amino acid, often discussed alongside caffeine for relaxation and focus; see Brain Fog.

A sulfur-containing amino acid, common in sports and metabolic nutrition formulas.

A collagen-characteristic amino acid and a marker of oral collagen metabolism; see Collagen and Laxity.

Includes salt forms such as magnesium glycinate and magnesium L-threonate; related to neuromuscular relaxation, see Deep Sleep.

A micronutrient related to immunity, skin, and the endocrine system.

Iron / Ferritin (Mineral and storage protein)

Section titled “Iron / Ferritin (Mineral and storage protein)”

Iron deficiency is associated with fatigue and hair loss; testing often looks at ferritin.

The metal cofactor of copper peptides such as GHK-Cu; see GHK-Cu.

Related to bone metabolism, often grouped with vitamin D and collagen nutrition.

A cofactor for collagen hydroxylation; also discussed as an antioxidant in topical use.

Related to bone, immunity, and mood; deficiency is common.

Related to anemia and neurological function.

An intercellular lipid of the stratum corneum, central to skin-barrier repair; see Skin Barrier.

A moisture-retaining component of the matrix; relevant in both filler and cosmetic contexts.

A recoil fiber; for oral BEP see Oral Oligopeptides.

Fibronectin (Extracellular-matrix component)

Section titled “Fibronectin (Extracellular-matrix component)”

An extracellular-matrix component, related to Matrixyl synthe’6.

An active related to the barrier, brightening, and sebum.

Commonly discussed in the context of melasma and pigmentation.

The core of the endogenous antioxidant system; in liver-protection nutrition contexts, see Hangover and Liver Protection.

An antioxidant enzyme; copper is its cofactor.

A central nervous system stimulant; also common in eye-area and fat-burning cosmetics.

Ethanol / Acetaldehyde (Alcohol-metabolism intermediates)

Section titled “Ethanol / Acetaldehyde (Alcohol-metabolism intermediates)”

Intermediates of the alcohol metabolic pathway; see Hangover.
